Stonehenge in Salisbury

Stonehenge is an historical monument roughly some 5000 years old. Nobody knows how they came and where they come from. It remained as a mystery in history.

It is located to the north of Salisbury at a distance of 13 km away from it. The monument just looks like a circle of stones. These stones are not some simple stones. But they are really of huge size. Moreover they are erected to stand vertically as the stones are themselves standing on their own. It is really wonderful sight to see how small people look compared with the Stonehenge structure. Each stone is very large – a height of 6m and they may weigh very high.

Scientists and historians tried to find the reason for building such a structure. There were many mythical stories about how the stones came into picture. Some say the monster has brought them from a sea shore and erected here. But recently a person has shown how to erect such large stones with the help of hinges and some mechanics. It does not require many people. A single person will do. The footage was posted on youtube.

Some scientists argue that the Stonehenge structure is meant for astrological purposes. Because there are two stones standing at the entrance like gates and the morning sunlight exactly passes through the line connecting the midpoint of these stones to the mid point of the circular Stonehenge structure. At that time it creates a spectacular impression in the mind of a tourist.
